What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are AHPRA registered allied health practitioners who have a whole person approach to injury assessment, diagnosis and management. Osteopathy encompasses both manual therapy techniques and rehabilitation exercises to assist with recovery and getting you back to doing what you love.

What study has an Osteopath completed?

Dr Michelle Dean completed a 5 year Bachelor and Masters degree in Osteopathy at Victoria University. She has also completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science and is registered with AHPRA, Osteopathy Australia and Exercise Sports Science Australia. Given her extensive studies in exercise rehabilitation, Michelle has achieved Advanced Exercise Rehabilitative Osteopath titling.

What conditions do people see an Osteopath for?

Common conditions include:

  • Neck and back pain

  • Mid back and rib pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Bursitis and shoulder impingement

  • Hip, knee and ankle pain

  • Sports injuries

  • Postural issues

  • Pregnancy and post natal recovery

I am pregnant, can I see an Osteopath?

Osteopathy may help with many pregnancy related aches and pains. Often pregnant women seek treatment for:

  • Pregnancy related back and pelvic pain

  • Birth preparation

  • Post natal recovery and rehabilitation

  • Abdominal separation

  • C-section recovery and rehabilitation

  • C-section scar and abdominal release

  • Pelvic floor pain

  • Feeding related neck pain and headaches

  • Wrist and thumb pain

Where is The Local Osteo located?

Dr Michelle Dean works out of her home based clinic in Croydon and also at Pivotal Osteopathy in Ringwood. This is in close proximity to suburbs including Chirnside Park, Mooroolbark, Montrose, Ringwood North, Ringwood East, Croydon Hills, Croydon North, Heathmont, Bayswater, Lilydale and Kilsyth.

Do I need a doctors referral to see an Osteopath?

No you can see an Osteopath without a referral. GP care plan referrals are accepted.

Do you accept private health funds?

Yes if your fund covers Osteopathy claims can be processed through HICAPS at both Croydon and Ringwood. Just have your card (or in your wallet app) at your appointment.

How many appointments will I need?

This is a common question and depends greatly on your injury/complaint, how long it has been an issue for, what has caused the injury, your goals and compliance with rehabilitation and management advice. Treatment plans and expectations are always worked through collaboratively.
