It still amazes me the difference when you compare the rehabilitation and recovery journey of an ACL reconstruction and a caesarean section. Having experienced both I have witnessed and experienced first hand how vastly different my recoveries were.

Both are major surgeries, but an ACL reconsturction will typically invoice 12 months of in depth rehabilitation to support and assist you with recovery. As a new mum post c-section, we will typically have a 6 week post natal check with our maternal health provider to see if our wound has healed and then we are generally left to figure out the rest of our recovery for ourselves.

As a consequence, this can affect how our c-section scar heals and cause the scar to lack mobility and flexibilty, and become tethered to the tissues beneath it resulting in a shelf appearance, have trouble connecting with and switching on core muscles leading to problems with posture or low back, neck or pelvic pain, and experiencing persistant numbness and altered sensation around our scar.

C-section scar release and rehabilitation involves manual therapy to mobilise the scar tissue and surrounding areas, with the aim of improving scar flexibility and mobility, and preventing tethering and adhesion formation. If our muscles are tight this can affect their ability to use our muscles to move and support our bodies, and releasing areas of tightness along with our scar can help improve low back, neck and pelvic pain. Additionally rehabilitating our core post pregnancy can help improve and rectify postural changes and help with diastasis healing and pelvic floor function.

If you are a c-section mama who:

Experiences discomfort or pulling sensations around your scar?

Has trouble connecting & switching on your core muscles?

Feels sensory changes like numbness, tingling or hypersensitivity around your scar?

Has problems with posture, low back, neck or pelvic pain?

Suffers from digestive issues like bloating, pain or constipation?

Feels breathless or like breathing is hard or restricted?

Is unhappy or feel self conscious about the appearance of your scar?

Then please reach out as I would love to help you with your c-section recovery journey. Bookings are available in Healesville and Ringwood, or if you would like further information then please get in touch.
